Luna Yena began 10 years ago in the Camargue, the lush Rhone delta south of Provence, France. This land is known for black bulls, white horses, pink flamingos, and Camargue Gypsy Rumba. This passionate music is a mixture of traditional Flamenco and driving Gypsy rhythms with Latin and African accents. The most famous band on the world stage performing this style of music, the Gipsy Kings, are also from the Camargue. Esteban, the group's powerful vocalist, and Yanito, talented lead guitarist, grew up steeped in this musical tradition, it is in their blood. On this, their most recent album, they return to their puro roots, employing only vocals, guitars, cajon and palmas. Family is of utmost importance in this culture. Esteban's father, Jackie Bonnard, joins the group for a heartfelt version of "Le Vieux Gitan", "The Old Gypsy". Listening to "ColorEs" will transport you to this land of the Gypsies. You will feel the heat of the sun and the campfire, hear the horses gallop, and almost taste the salt in the air. These songs will grab your soul and stick in your mind and heart long after the album has finished. ~ Cati de Floride |
